About Ashley Thorpe, LCSW

Everyone has a unique story and it is my privilege to create a safer and authentic space for you to explore the different parts of yourself. My social work journey has been profoundly shaped by my own lived experiences, so I recognize the importance of empathy, validation, and understanding in the therapeutic process. I have over 12 years of experience providing clinical and social work services at the inpatient, outpatient, and community level.

I specialize in neurodivergence, anxiety, sadness, suicidal ideation, and self-harm. I also support clients in managing grief, substance misuse, interpersonal trauma, family and relationship distress, and social stressors. I strive to be LGBTQIA-affirming, and to use an anti-oppressive and neurodivergence-centered lens.

My goal as a clinical social worker is to help you embrace your uniqueness, navigate life’s challenges, and cultivate resilience. I am honored to be part of my clients’ journeys and am dedicated to walking alongside their paths toward healing and growth.

As a neurodivergent clinical social worker,  I can understand the complexities of accessing and healing through different models and areas of well-being.

I strive to be LGBTQIA-affirming and to use an anti-oppressive and neurodivergence-affirming lens; guided by my core principles of inclusion and psychological safety. I am passionate about reducing stigma surrounding mental health and helping people strengthen their resiliency and coping skills. I strive  to utilize my privileges for social justice and healing purposes. As a Northern Virginian, I can understand the climate surrounding and within our communities.

My approach

To be strengths-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered, I utilize various therapeutic interventions and theories to meet my client's needs.

Looking to grow your self-compassion and/or heal from trauma-related experiences? I may incorporate IFS, ACT, and Expressive Arts.

Looking to manage intrusive thoughts? I'll rely on tools from DBT, Mindfulness, and CBT.
